Umargam Nagarpalika is the primary municipal body governing the town of Umargam (also known as Umbergaon) in the Valsad district of Gujarat. The name "Umargam" comes from the Gujarati words Umar (a personal name) and gam (village).
Strategically located near the Maharashtra border on the Arabian Sea coast, Umargam is a fast-growing urban centre with a thriving industrial estate, rich coastal tourism, and a literacy rate that exceeds the Gujarat state average. Location
Umargam is located in the Valsad district of Gujarat, near the Maharashtra border, at approximately 20°10′N 72°46′E. It sits along the Arabian Sea coast in a slightly mountainous terrain.
GIDC Industrial Estate
Established in 1967, the GIDC Estate in Umargam spans 388 hectares and hosts over 1,200 industries — covering Engineering, Textiles, Plastics, Writing Instruments, Ferrous & Non-Ferrous metals, and Food Processing sectors.
Home to India's First Nano Plant
In 2017, Umargam became home to India's first nanotechnology manufacturing plant, cementing its reputation as a forward-looking industrial hub within Gujarat.
Gujarati Film City
Umargam is also known for its emerging film industry — the 'Umargam Gujarati Film City' has made the town a growing centre for regional entertainment and media production.
